Shigeyoshi Nabeshima had success with the casting of cannons. In 1837, he conducted large-scale gunnery exercises in the Takeo territory. In 1840, he also had a successful test firing in front of the lord of Saga domain, Naomasa Nabeshima. After watching the test firing, Naomasa decided to fully embrace Western gunnery and directed Jyunzaemon Hiraiyama to provide instruction.
In 1854, Shigeyoshi Nabeshima was put in charge of early steamboat production. The Saga domain was greatly affected by these technological achievements in Takeo.
